Alicia Machado breaks down in tears after criticism for attending a concert

When Venezuela is hurting, todo el mundo feels it – especially those living abroad. So when former Miss Universe Alicia Machado was spotted at Carín León’s concert in Miami just four days after the powerful earthquake that struck La Guaria on June 24, 2026, social came with everything. “There was no need for you to post about the great time you were having at a concert when your country is in mourning and many have lost everything,” commented a follower. Some one else added: “Two days ago, very sad; yesterday, happy; and today, sad again. Back home, we call that bipolarity. Go to therapy, *mija*.”

Machado responded: “No, papi, I’m not bipolar. I don’t need to go to therapy; I’ve already been. I am an extraordinary person—very hardworking and deeply committed. From day one of this tragedy, I was the first person to mobilize and contact the team at GEM, with whom I had previously collaborated. I knew from the very first day that unless I went through a U.S. government organization, it would be impossible to deliver aid. We managed to make it happen,” she stated on a video she posted on social media.

That’s not all. She also stated that she felt hurt by the way some media outlets have handled the situation and denounced the existence of a hate campaign against her. “I am very sad because of the hatred coming from certain media outlets—continuing to subject me to media-driven abuse, constructing hate campaigns against me, and posting analyses about me time and time again,” she said. “I deeply regret the hatred. I know that, for a long time, I have become a sort of dumping ground for many Venezuelans—a place where they can unload all their hatred onto me, over and over again, without my having done a thing. I don’t think they have ever forgiven me for my personality; they have never forgiven me for being a strong, spirited woman. There is so much malice.”

“It is unfair that, since yesterday, some media outlets have been posting: ‘Alicia Machado has no soul, no heart; she lacks empathy; she is inhumane.’ What is the need for that? If you only had the slightest idea of what I’ve been working on since this happened,” she concluded. (Source: Agencia México).

“No Me Disculpo”: Alicia responded

In an emotional response shared on her social media, Machado said she would NOT apologize for going to a show. She made it clear that critics don’t see the full picture.

She also revealed that the concert wasn’t just for entertainment – it was organized to collect money for Venezuela and support earthquake relief efforts. Alicia stressed that her attendance was part of that mission, not a sign of indifference, and that she was showing up for her people in every way she could. In other words: she went to help, no to turn her back to Venezuela.

“Estoy haciendo todo lo que puedo”, she told fans – insisting that stepping out for one night does not mean she’s indifferent to Venezuela’s pain.

A follower expressed her support: “I watched the full video and just want to thank you for what you do for our country. I love who you are and your transparency. Sending you a hug and my respect, Ali. Blessings.”
