Pérez Hilton in “serious but stable” condition after health crisis

Perez Hilton

Pérez Hilton, the Cuban-American celebrity blogger who built an empire for his aggressive reporting, is fighting through one of the toughest battles of his life. His family confirmed Saturday that the 48-year-old remains hospitalized in Florida in “serious but stable” condition, facing surgery in the coming days after losing a significant amount of blood. “He experienced significant blood loss and sustained additional injuries that will require surgery in the coming days,” the family said in a statement posted to Hilton’s website. “His treatment and recovery will be a long process. We are grateful that Pérez was able to spend time with his mother and sister yesterday.”

For a man who has lived his life in the public eye, Hilton now finds himself in deeply private struggle. He remains under Florida’s Baker Act, which allows for involuntary psychiatric evaluation when someone is believed to be a danger to themselves or others. His contact with the outside world has been “extremely limited and confined to immediate family, medical providers, and others directly involved in his care,” according to his family.

The family made clear that Hilton “has not communicated with the media or issued any public statements,” and urged the public to trust only information posted on his official website.

A family’s Plea for Privacy

In their statement, Hilton’s family made an emotional appeal to the media circus that has descended on their home. “We again respectfully ask members of the media to leave the home and surrounding area, stop following family members, and cease photographing Perez’s children,” the statement said. The family also asked photo agencies not to buy or circulate any pictures of the children.

Hilton is a proud father of three children, all born through surrogacy: a son born in 2013, and two daughters born in 2015 and 2017. In an earlier statement Thursday, the family revealed that his children, niece, and sister were inside the home just minutes before the livestream that sparked the crisis, leaving once it became clear he was in distress.

How the Crisis Unfolded

The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office responded to Hilton’s home on August 4 after receiving multiple calls about a man live-streaming acts of self-harm. According to police, officers spoke with family members outside and “tactically disengaged” – a careful approach that likely saved a life.

The person was “safely recovered and transported by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue to a local hospital, where he is receiving medical attention,” police said to the media, though they did not identify Hilton by name.

Fans reaction

As news of the crisis spread, his fans – which has watched Hilton navigate fame, identity, and fatherhood in the public eye – has rallied with messages of support and prayers. Mental health struggles affect our communities deeply, yet too often remain unspoken, hidden behind closed doors and family pride.

Hilton’s journey reminds us that no amount of success, fame, or followers can shield anyone from mental health challenges. His family’s focus now is on his recovery, surrounded by the love of his mother, his sister, and the three children who need their father.
