Death of Juan Cristóbal Sforzina Bermúdez Sparks Mourning Across Venezuela

Venezuelan media and the entertainment community are mourning the death of Juan Cristóbal Sforzina Bermúdez, the 14-year-old (other medias report that he was 16-year-old) son of the late television presenter and actress Josemith Bermúdez. News of his passing was confirmed by family friends and media outlets on April 29, 2026.

Juan Cristóbal was the only child of Josemith Bermúdez, who passed away in 2021 after a long battle with cancer. His father, Venezuelan businessman and producer Cristóbal Lander, has not yet made a public statement regarding the circumstances of his son’s death. Authorities and family representatives have not disclosed the cause of death, and reports emphasize that speculation should be avoided out of respect for the family’s privacy.

At the time the teenager’s tragic death was confirmed, no additional details regarding the causes of his passing were released. However, content creator Jostin Montilla—known as “La Parcera Jostin” on her Instagram account—stated that she had been in contact with Juan Cristóbal’s maternal family, who provided her with details regarding the tragedy, reported Las Top News.

According to the content creator, following the actress’s death, the teenager’s father and stepmother: “Made decisions that drove Juan Cristóbal into a state of depression, compounded by the loss of his mother. The day after Josemith’s death, Juan Cristóbal was taken to live in Mexico… From that moment on, he began to suffer from depression—and not only that, but he also experienced bouts of anxiety over the loss of his mother. Added to this was the fact that they had cut off all forms of communication between him and his maternal family.”

Furthermore, Montilla asserted that the actress’s son: “Was under the supervision of a psychologist and had been referred for psychiatric therapy. However, his father and stepmother never followed up on his mental health care… On top of everything previously mentioned, during his adolescence—as any young man might do—Juan Cristóbal took a vehicle for a drive and was involved in an accident, which provoked a great deal of anger in his father and stepmother.”

The content creator maintained that Juan Cristóbal lost contact with his maternal family because: “His father and stepmother actively thwarted any attempt at communication or interaction with his maternal relatives.” She also reported that: “Juan Cristóbal had a second, hidden phone, which he used to reach out to his schoolmates; he informed them of his intentions and bade them all farewell. It is also rumored that he left behind a note, though this has been denied… The funeral arrangements are reportedly being organized today; however, they did not permit an autopsy to be performed—for reasons that remain unknown.” Regarding the details of his passing, Jostin Montilla stated: “Yesterday at 1:00 p.m., upon arriving home, his parents found Juan Cristóbal dead on the balcony due to mechanical asphyxiation… Juan Cristóbal took his own life at the age of 16; his father is devastated today, as is his maternal family.”

Tributes

Tributes have poured in from across Venezuela and Latin America, with fans, colleagues, and public figures expressing condolences and sharing memories of Josemith and her son. Many have highlighted the deep bond between mother and child, often visible in Josemith’s social media posts before her passing.

The Bermúdez family has requested privacy as they grieve this loss. Media outlets have echoed calls for sensitivity and restraint in reporting, urging the public to focus on honoring the memory of both Josemith and her son rather than circulating unverified information.

Juan Cristóbal’s death marks another moment of sorrow for Venezuelan entertainment circles, which continue to remember Josemith Bermúdez for her courage, optimism, and contributions to television and humanitarian causes.
